Automated Bladder Cancer Test

A noninvasive bladder cancer test is now available in an automated version, which was introduced at the annual meeting of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology in Vancouver (Canada).

The new version of the test called ImmunoCyt/uCyt+ has been incorporated into an automated workstation for microscopy slide analysis in the monitoring of bladder cancer. More...
Called Odyssee, the workstation is powered by uCyt+ Suite, a dedicated image analysis software and patient management system. The system screens, detects, reports, and archives data and images from ImmunoCyt/uCyt+ fluorescent slides, thereby allowing laboratories with high-volume urine cytologies to improve the efficiency of their operations.

Based on 10 studies conducted in more than 2,000 patients, the test is being increasingly recognized as the optimal adjunct to urine cytology in the management of recurrent bladder cancer, according to DiagnoCure, Inc. (Quebec City, Canada; www.diagnocure.com), which developed the test. Using fluorescent label probes, ImmunoCyt/uCyt+ provides information beyond morphology, thereby improving the detection of low- and high-grade tumors as well as carcinoma in situ.

The uCyt+ Suite was developed by Samba Technologies SAS (Meylan, France), a wholly owned subsidiary of DiagnoCure. DiagnoCure is now actively pursuing the development of a prototype test for the detection of lung cancer and has also initiated identification and validation of markers for the detection of kidney cancer.
