ASRs for the Molecular Diagnostic Market

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 13 Jul 2004
Twenty-one analyte-specific reagents (ASRs) are available for use in molecular diagnostics.

Called MGB (minor groove binders) Eclipse Detection Reagents, the ASRS were launched by Epoch Biosciences, Inc. More...
(Bothell, WA, USA; www.epochbio.com), which states they are the next-generation in DNA probe and primer technology for real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), providing an easy-to-use high performance alternative to current chemistries and available as pre-optimized reagents for detecting genetic targets associated with disease.

The 21 reagents include assays for Epstein-Barr virus, Human herpes virus 6, SARS, Factor V Leiden, Angiotensin II, cancer, TNF-alpha, and enterovirus. Epoch sells directly to clinical laboratories in the United States and is pursuing various distribution alternatives in Europe and Japan.

"We have begun to build a base of customers in the clinical laboratory market who desire the level of broad menu, sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility our technology delivers,” commented William G. Gerber, M.D., CEO of Epoch.
