Scholarship Program for Medical Lab Students

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 06 Aug 2004
A new scholarship program targeted at international students as well as U.S. More...
students seeking degrees in medical laboratory science has been announced by Dade Behring (Deerfield, IL, USA).

The program builds on and includes the U.S.$150,000 scholarship fund for students announced in 2003 and initiated in 2004. The company's total contribution to the program through 2008 will be $1,250,000. Dade Behring notes that a severe labor shortage is one of the biggest problems facing the clinical laboratory industry. As a consequence, diagnostic laboratories are continually in crisis for lack of staff to perform the billions of laboratory tests required to uphold the current standard of care.

"We understand that the shortage of trained medical technicians is a pressing problem, and we have taken this step to address a major problem for our customers and our industry,” stated Jim Reid-Anderson, chairman, president, and CEO of Dade Behring. "We believe that providing fast, accurate diagnoses is a critical part of health care, and we are proud to support the education of trained laboratory professionals and thus, the saving of human lives.”
