Immunoassay Platform with Multiplexing Technology

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 10 Aug 2004
A new clinical diagnostics system offers multiplexing on a fully automated, fully integrated random access platform. More...
The system was introduced at the annual meeting of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry in Los Angeles (CA, USA) in July 2004.

Multiplexing can generate multiple results from a single patient sample. The new system, called BioPlex 2200, fully automates bead-based multiplexing and can deliver up to 2,200 results per hour, providing clinical informatics to aid diagnosis. Initial tests will target the autoimmune diagnostics field. Future assays in development are for serology, infectious disease, cardiology, and toxicology applications.

The BioPlex 2200 is the product of Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. (Hercules, CA, USA; www.bio-rad.com). "We are pleased to be able to provide this revolutionary technology in an automated and integrated platform,” said John Goetz, vice president of Bio-Rad's clinical diagnostics group. "We believe it will improve the quality of testing and aid laboratories in becoming more efficient and cost effective.”
