Fully Automated Staining Instrument

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 04 Oct 2004
A new fully automated staining instrument removes the limitations of traditional batch processing, allowing a patient sample to be processed immediately so that the diagnosis is not delayed because of technical constraints. More...
The instrument, called Eridan, was unveiled at the National Society of Histotechnology Symposium in Toronto (Canada) in September 2004.

The Eridan allows for complete walk-away automation beginning with tissue deparaffinization and ending with an optimized immunohistochemistry (IHC) stained slide. Unique features include a drawer design and complete slide traceability from any client software location. The Eridan can merge local area networking (LAN) technology, InfoGlyph label coding, and remote diagnostics. The instrument is an innovative solution for automated staining of paraffin embedded tissues, cytology, and fine-needle aspirate preparations. The Eridan is the product of DakoCytomation A/S (Copenhagen, Denmark).

"The Eridan will make life easier for all who work in clinical laboratories,” said Dennis Chenoweth, corporate vice president of diagnostics, DakoCytomation. "Because the instrument provides continuous flow capabilities, laboratory personnel will be free to run samples when they come into the lab. This means they can avoid backlogs and improve the efficiency of their service.”
