Patent Issued on Technology for Tissue Diagnostics

patent covering a "Moving Platform Slide Stainer with Heating Elements” has been issued to CytoLogix Corp. (Cambridge, MA, USA).

The patent covers an enabling technology for many types of DNA diagnostics and gene screening tests for the drug discovery market. This technology is important for next-generation laboratory tissue diagnostics, since it derives from the variety of clinical tests performed to make an accurate diagnosis. These tests frequently require different temperatures. CytoLogix' patented technology provides a method to bring individual samples to different temperatures on a single automated instrument.

The new technology addresses an essential need of the histopathology laboratory, says CytoLogix. This is to provide faster and more reproducible staining and improve the productivity of trained personnel. Unlike traditional blood testing, cellular diagnostics allows the identification of disease markers within human cells. The major application is in the accurate diagnosis and prognosis of cancer. CytoLogix is an innovator in the field of Anatomic Pathology laboratory diagnostics. Its Artisan instrument and reagent system with individual slide heating is among the first flexible, multitasking instrument capable of automating both special stains and immunohistochemistry.
