The NT-proBNP test of Dade Behring (Deerfield, IL, USA; www.dadebehring.com) has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use on the company's Stratus CS Acute Care diagnostics system. The assay was cleared to aid in the diagnosis of heart failure, including assessment of heart failure severity in patients diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and risk stratification of patients with acute coronary syndrome and heart failure. In December 2004, clearance was received for the use of the test in the assessment of heart failure severity and risk stratification on the company's Dimension instruments with heterogeneous immunoassay module.

"We take our responsibility to our customers in the laboratories, and to the patients and physicians they serve very seriously, and we are pleased to provide another diagnostic tool in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, the number one cause of death across the world,” said Jim Reid-Anderson, chairman, president, and CEO, Dade Behring.
