"Lab Tests Online” Expands in Europe

The content of the U.S. More...
website Lab Tests on Line will be translated and adapted to reflect the language and national healthcare policies and practices of Germany, Italy, and Spain, according to an agreement announced by The American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC, Washington, DC, USA) and the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association (EDMA, Brussels, Belgium).

The three countries will be the first on the continent to offer localized versions of the patient-information site. Lab Tests Online was developed by clinical laboratory professionals to help patients and caregivers better understand the many clinical lab tests that are part of routine care as well as the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of conditions and diseases. Based on past experience, patients and their families are the primary audience for the site, while about 25% of users are doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals.

Under the agreement, the new sites will adhere to the noncommercial and peer review policies of the U.S. website. EDMA will provide administrative and financial support for the sites. Over the coming months, the three new versions of Lab Tests Online with new material of particular relevance to each country will be developed in close cooperation with the national diagnostics association affiliated with EDMA and professional societies: VDGH/DGKL in Germany, Assobiomedica/SIBioC in Italy, and Fenin/SEQC in Spain.

Lab Tests Online offers descriptions of more than 200 laboratory tests and descriptions of more than 80 common diseases that link to the tests used to diagnose and monitor them. The content also offers recommendations for screening tests from leading authorities and news summaries tracking new advances in clinical lab testing.

"It puts Lab Tests Online closer to the center of a global consumer education effort and promises to make our award-winning content more accessible to a great many more people,” said Mitch Scott, president of AACC.
