Online Information on HIV Drug Resistance Tests

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 05 Jul 2001
Information about HIV drug resistance assays and assay providers is now available on the Internet. More...
The site is designed to provide information on the specifications, methodologies, availability, and regulatory status of individual genotypic and phenotypic HIV drug resistance tests. It was created by Michelle E. Roland, M.D., of the University of California, San Francisco (USA), Positive Health Program at San Francisco General Hospital.

At the core of the new content area are interactive tables presenting comparative information on individual HIV drug resistance tests and test providers. The tables link to laboratory and company pages that provide more detailed information. Also featured are original articles detailing the latest technologic advancements, clinical trials data, and other information. The website is made possible by an unrestricted educational grant from GlaxoSmithKline (London, UK).

"Although the optimal use of resistance testing in the clinical management of people with HIV infection is still being defined, these tests are being used with increasing regularity by HIV healthcare providers, and many commercial laboratories and academic centers are currently offering them to their customers,” noted Dr. Roland.
