Improved Strips for Glucose Testing

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 13 Jul 2001
Newly introduced test strips for blood glucose monitoring are based on new technology called TrueMeasure. More...
As a result, the strips incorporate advanced features and benefits that enhance the accuracy of testing.

A three-electrode design has been integrated into the new strip, which is designed to act as a trigger, starting the glucose test only after a sufficient blood sample is applied to the strip, thereby providing more-accurate results. The strip requires a very small blood sample and provides a result within 20 seconds. New proprietary test chemistry minimizes false low and high readings caused by interfering substances. The new chemistry is more specific for identifying glucose. During testing, it displayed no interference from more than 60 common medications and over-the-counter products including vitamin C and acetaminophen.

The new strips were developed by Abbott Laboratories, MediSense Products (Bedford, MA, USA). "As leaders in the evolution of biosensor test-strip development, we are excited about the spectrum of new benefits that TrueMeasure technology offers,” said Mike Collins, vice president and general manager, MediSense
Products. The new strips have been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
