Wireless Portable Detector Includes Sharing Capability, Enhancing DR Flexibility and Efficiency

A new wireless portable detector (WPD) has been developed to share functionality on static and mobile digital radiography (DR) and digital radiography/fluoroscopy (DRF) equipment. More...


WPD-sharing technology allows hospitals to use one detector on multiple digital radiography modalities, making the most efficient use of hospital resources and capabilities.

Philips Healthcare’s (Best, The Netherlands) wireless portable-detector sharing addresses hospital X-ray requirements: the need to provide a variety of digital imaging capabilities to patients while also keeping costs low. WPD sharing meets this demand by offering the possibility to substitute one detector per modality with a single wireless portable detector. The detector can be shared among multiple systems, allowing users to move between solutions easily as the need arises, providing more freedom and flexibility. For instance, if a mobile X-ray unit is only used in the morning, the detector can be used on a stationary X-ray system during the rest of the day.

The new sharing capability optimizes detector utilization and therefore reduces initial investment for hospitals, allowing them to buy one piece of equipment for use in several rooms. Additionally, detector sharing helps facilities maintain a continuous exam schedule with a continuous uptime by providing the possibility to use another wireless portable detector as back-up solution. The functionality does not limit system battery life--the system automatically charges when placed in the wireless tray of a system or a docking station.

Philips provides tailored solutions that can easily be upgraded with more detectors as the need arises. Financial risk and accidental damage can be comfortably covered with a service agreement (only available in selected countries). “WPD sharing can significantly support hospitals to provide the best care possible at an affordable price,” said Ronald Tabaksblat, senior vice president and general manager for Philips diagnostic X-ray business. “It’s an innovative solution that focuses on patient care while taking into account the realities of hospital operations.”

Philips wireless portable detector sharing is available for DigitalDiagnost DR rooms, EasyDiagnost Eleva DRF rooms, and MobileDiagnost wDR units.
