Desktop Immunoanalyzer for POC Testing

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 07 Aug 2001
A new self-monitoring desktop immunoanalyzer requires no calibration, specialized training, maintenance or field service and provides results in minutes at a patient's bedside or in a doctor's office with the accuracy and reliability of tests from a central laboratory.

The system, called Relia, also provides printed reports and completes up to 20 separate quality-control checks to help ensure that only valid results are reported. More...
The system is the product of Praxsys Biosystems Inc. (San Ramon, CA, US). The company says that decentralized laboratory testing has failed because of machine complexity and lack of standardization or results between machines and different laboratories.

The first application targeted by Praxsys is a thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test for evaluating thyroid disease. Other tests in development include a fertility panel that includes quantitative human-chorionic gonadotropin, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteininzing hormone (LH) tests. Assays for prostate specific antigen (PSA), hepatitis virus, and cardiac marker troponin are other assays in development. The founders of Praxsys were formerly part of the senior management team at Chiron Corporation.
