Alliance for Detection of Infectious Agents

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 05 Sep 2001
A collaborative agreement has been announced whereby Xanthon Inc. More...
(Research Triangle Park, NC, USA) will explore the development of a system to detect infectious agents, utilizing patented Xanthon technology and the proprietary nucleic acid sequences of Chiron Corp. (Emeryville, CA, USA).

Xanthon will conduct the studies, utilizing its electrochemical DNA detection system and Chiron's hepatitis C virus (HCV) insert. If the project is successfully completed, the companies will consider further development of a multiplexed diagnostic platform that would screen for multiple infectious diseases from an individual clinical sample. The Xanthon technology enables the detection of nucleic acids and proteins without purification, amplification, or addition of chemical labels. The Xanthon Xpression Analysis System will be launched early next year for high throughput screening applications in drug discovery.

"This collaboration with Chiron is one example of many potential applications for the company's patented electrochemical platform,” said James D. skinner, president and CEO of Xanthon.
