Discrete Cell Analyzer Increases Assay Capabilities

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 13 Sep 2001
A new cell analyzer is specifically designed to increase the breadth and throughput of cell-based functional assays. More...
The instrument is supplied with bright field and epifluorescence optics and a fast, high-resolution CCD camera.

Software modules offer dedicated and automated solutions for common assays. A well-validated neurite elaboration assay is available now. Translocation and other fluorescent and non-fluorescent assays will be available in the near future. Called AutoLead, the analyzer can process more than 2,500 samples per hour in 384-well microplates. A broad variety of optical components can be selected to optimize the analyzer for specific assay requirements.

AutoLead is the product of Imaging Research Inc. (St. Catherines, Canada), a subsidiary of Amersham Pharmacia Biotech. "With AutoLead we have enabled some difficult assays such as unstained neurites and whole organism screening,” said David Burns, chief operating officer and vice president commercial at Imaging Research. "The very fast autofocus technology we have developed takes cell-based secondary screening to a new dimension in quality and throughput.”
