Software for Laboratory Automation

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 20 Sep 2001
New software enables laboratory managers to design the optimal laboratory automation system to suit their needs. More...
The interactive program allows users to browse its selection of setup scenarios and assemble the configuration that best fits their applications, throughput, capacity, and time needs.

The system is highly scalable, allowing users to decide the level of automation required for any given application, ranging from a stand-alone workstation to a fully integrated system. Developed by Zymark Corp. (Hopkinton, MA, USA), the software is called ZAP (Zymark Automation Planner). Specific applications include compound logistics, screening, genomics, and proteomics.

The software also generates a virtual automation environment directly linked to Zymark's integration software called Clara. Once the actual configuration is assembled, the same software can execute the methods to provide a real-time running solution. In order to make the best decision, a lab manager can use ZAP to run a number of process simulations prior to actual execution.
