EraGen Biosciences (Alachua, FL, USA), a functional genomics company, has licensed its AEGIS (an expanded genetic information system) synthetic DNA base pair technology to Bayer Diagnostics (Tarrytown, NY, USA). More...
AEGIS permits the detection and manipulation of DNA samples with greater specificity than other DNA analysis methods.

Bayer will utilize AEGIS in its branched DNA (bDNA) technology for nucleic acid testing (NAT), including its test for HIV (HIV-1 RNA 3.0 assay). This test, which uses bDNA technology to measure viral load levels, is designed to assist doctors in monitoring HIV-infected patients.

"Our R&D group has demonstrated that AEGIS base pairs yield improvements across a broad spectrum of DNA assay technologies, including enzyme-based amplification and detection methods,” said Dr. Gideon Shapiro, CEO of EraGen Biosciences. EraGen licenses its bioinformatics, nucleic acid, and genotyping technologies for clinical diagnostic and life science research applications.
