System Integrates Automated Lab Instruments

A new system designed for high-volume laboratories integrates fully automated instruments within a single lab to optimize their combined capabilities.

Called StreamLab Analytical Workcell, the system operates like a single workstation from a touch screen. Tests that can be conducted with analyzers in the Workcell include routine and specialty chemistry and immunochemistry, complete cardiac panel, therapeutic drug monitoring, drugs of abuse, and plasma proteins. Both routine and STAT tests can be conducted on the Workcell simultaneously.

The Workcell enables a single operator to process as many as 300 samples an hour. The StreamLab system eliminates the potential for inconsistencies inherent both in manual tasks and with processing conducted by multiple laboratorians. Automation technology streamlines the task of sample management within a large-volume laboratory. Modular architecture provides various configuration choices. The new system was developed by Dade Behring (Deerfield, IL, USA) and is compatible with Dade Behring's Dimension RxL systems.

"In effect, the new StreamLab Workcell houses the power of Dade Behring's range of diagnostic offerings under a single analytical source,” said Jim Reid-Anderson, president and CEO of Dade Behring.
