Quality Assurance System for Analyzer

A quality assurance system for clinical laboratories called Intelligent Quality Management (iQM) is designed to improve the quality of test results, enhance patient care, and reduce costs.

IQM continuously monitors operation of the analytical process of the Gem Premier 3000 critical care analyzer, including sensors, fluidics, and electronics, following the same path a patient sample travels, so no part of the system is left unchecked. More...
Upon detection of an error, iQM automatically performs and documents corrective actions. All manual processes associated with traditional quality control are eliminated. At the heart of the system is failure pattern recognition (FPR) software, which identifies known failure patterns during cartridge operations to ensure real-time flagging of possible errors associated with clots, interfering substances, or other problems that could led to erroneous results.

The Gem Premier 3000, a blood gas, electrolyte, glucose, lactate, and hematocrit analyzer that utilizes planar sensors, is the product of Instrumentation Laboratory (IL, Lexington, MA, USA), which also developed iQM.

"This innovative system is the result of over fifteen years of research and close alliances with customers that uncovered methods to improve the quality process. We believe iQM will greatly reduce labor and materials costs, while ensuring accuracy in test results,” said Eugene Achter, Ph.D., vice president of research and development at IL.
