At-Home Tests for Vaginal Infections

The AL-SENSE test comprises a panty liner with a built-in color indicator strip. When dampened by amniotic fluid, the indicator strip changes color. Each kit contains seven tests. Another test based on the same technology is VI-SENSE. Should the indicator strip turn blue, the user may be suffering from bacterial vaginosis or Trichomonas. In such cases, the user is advised to consult a physician. On the other hand, a yellow color indicates the possibility that a nonprescription drug treatment for yeast infection has been used.

The tests were developed by Common Sense (Caesarea, Israel). The VI-SENSE kit is more accurate than existing pH classifying methods, according to the company. The test offers nonintrusive continuous monitoring, allows users to share the reading of test results with a physician, and does not require a color scale. The VI-SENSE contains two tests.

"There are over 100 million cases of abnormal vaginal discharge in the U.S. alone and with Common Sense's panty liner, test results can be brought to the doctor to get complete treatment on the first visit.”
