CDC Offers New Bioterrorism Resources for Labs

Posted on 26 Feb 2003
New and updated bioterrorism resources for laboratory professionals, doctors, and other health-care workers are offered on the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, Atlanta, GA, USA). More...

The site addresses the need for up-to-date and accurate information on health threats arising from exposure to biologic, chemical, or radiologic agents. It is the official federal site for laboratory, medical, and public health professionals to reference when providing information to the public and for updates on protocols related to health threats such as anthrax. In October 2001, as a results of the anthrax crisis, the CDC registered more than nine million visits to its website. This overwhelming need for information led the CDC to redesign the website.

"As a result of recent events, we find that not only health professionals but people from all walks of life want information on health threats directly from our agency's website,” said Jeffrey P. Koplan, M.D., M.H.P., director of the CDC. "This new site makes the most-requested information on public health preparedness and emergency response easier to find and update quickly.”
