Ulcer Matrix Shown to Cure Skin Ulcers

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 26 Dec 2000
A study being conducted on an investigational ulcer treatment shows that it is producing a high rate of cures for refractory diabetic and other types of severe skin ulcers. More...
The 15 patients in the study had all failed previous therapy utilizing conventional methods.

The ulcer treatment, or ulcer matrix, was developed by LAM Pharmaceutical Corp. (Miami, FL, USA) and is based on new drug delivery technology involving an ionic polymer matrix (IPM) for the purpose of delivering, enhancing, and sustaining the action of therapeutic agents. The company expects to introduce the new ulcer matrix in 2001.

"The problem of slow-healing and nonhealing ulcers appears to becoming endemic. Factors contributing to the rise in the number of patients suffering from this serious condition appear to be related to an aging population and the ever-increasing number of infirm and bed-ridden patients,” said Alan Drizen, president and CEO of LAM.
