In a move to expand its bead-based assay systems, Molecular Probes, Inc. More...
(Eugene, OR, USA) has acquired Interfacial Dynamics Corp. (IDC, Portland, OR, USA). Financial terms were not disclosed.

IDC will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Molecular Probes. IDC was a pioneer in the production of surfactant-free, high-quality, reproducible latex microspheres. The acquisition gives Molecular Probes the ability to design and manufacture these latex microspheres for its own products and to offer a full line of microspheres to customers. Molecular Probes is a leading global provider of fluorescence-based detection assays.

"Adding IDC's outstanding capabilities in microsphere development and manufacturing to our expertise in fluorescence and conjugation, along with our relationships with major reagent, diagnostic, and instrument companies, gives us numerous opportunities to develop new bead-based assays and particle-based detection systems for a wide variety of uses,” said Anthony Martin, Ph.D., president and CEO of Molecular Probes.
