In a move to acquire technology for minimally invasive spine surgery, DePuy Spine, Inc. More...
(Raynham, MA, USA) has acquired certain assets of The Bright Group, Inc. (Boca Raton, FL, USA). Terms were not disclosed.

The Bright Group's principal product, Insite System, is designed to provide less-invasive access to the spinal disc, compared to conventional medical techniques. In particular, the Insite System represents an advance for patients requiring discectomy and related procedures because it can reduce the overall incision size and the impact of the surgery on patients. The Insite System can also be used for minimally invasive spinal fixation.
DePuy plans to commercialize products for minimally invasive discectomy, lumbar spinal fusion, and cervical spinal fusion based on the platform technology obtained through this transaction.

"This strategic acquisition is a key component in DePuy Spine's commitment to establish a comprehensive minimally invasive spinal product portfolio,” said Earl Fender, worldwide president of DePuy Spine, Inc. The company has changed the name of its Depuy Acromed Division to DePuy Spine, Inc.
