New Name for Blood Analysis Systems

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 06 Apr 2004
The blood analysis system recently acquired by International Technidyne, Inc. More...
(ITC, Edison, NJ, USA), called IRMA (immunoradiometric assay), has been renamed IRMA Trupoint by the company.

IRMA Truepoint measures pH, blood gases, hematocrit, electrolytes, and other chemistries. The unit is completely self-contained and portable, weighing just over five pounds, and can easily be transported to critical areas throughout the hospital, such as the operating room and the intensive care unit. The system can deliver patient results in 90 seconds because of its electrochemical sensor technology and single-use cartridges. Other features include automatic quality control, patient and cartridge bar code scanning, operator security, results printing, and data management.

"With the addition of IRMA Trupoint, ITC, ITC is the only company offering a full line of coagulation and critical care tests for bedside point-of-care testing,” explained Lawrence Cohen, president of ITC. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thoratec, Inc. (Pleasanton, CA, USA).
