Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany) won both first and second place honors at the 2004 Health Care Research and Innovations Congress (HCRIC) for its Magnetom Espree magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system and Somatom Sensation 64 computed tomography (CT) system, respectively. More...
The Magnetom Espree is the world's first open bore 1.5 Tesla MRI system, and was awarded first place in the Innovation of the Year category. Second place was awarded to the Somatom Sensation system, an extremely fast CT system capable of providing excellent image quality in neurology, cardiac, and body imaging applications. The conference was held last November 29-December 1 in Washington D.C., USA

"We are honored to be recognized with these two awards from HCRIC,” stated Tom McCausland, president, Customer Solutions Group, Siemens Medical Solutions. "Siemens has addressed customer demand for faster, more accurate and efficient technologies.”

With a bore opening of 70 cm in diameter, the Magnetom Espree provides more room than the conventional MRI and is capable of capturing high-field quality diagnostic images. The Somatom Sensation 64 provides 64-submillimeter imaging per rotation, and currently has the world's fastest gantry rotation time of 0.33 seconds for exceptional speed and sub-millimeter volume coverage, thereby allowing clinicians to make more informed diagnosis and treatment decisions. Utilizing Siemens' z-Sharp technology, this CT system is designed to provide significant improvement in acquisition time and resolution, which are vital for vascular, cardiac, neurology, and emergency situations.

The HCRIC awards were created to recognize companies, foundations, non-profit organizations, academic institutions, and government agencies for excellence and advancement in implementing innovative technology to expedite medical advancements and to improve patient care.
