The completion of the acquisition of Osteoimplant Technology, Inc. More...
(OTI, Hunt Valley, MD, USA) has been announced by Encore Medical (Austin, TX, USA). Encore paid about U.S.$14.5 million in cash for OTI, and will pay up to 1.5 million more in future milestone payments, as earned by OTI.

OTI is a supplier of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) orthopedic joint replacements (Total Knee, Easy Stem), spinal systems, trauma devices, and instrumentation, including a multi-axial positioning system for spinal fixation. Encore Medical is a diversified orthopedic device company that develops, manufactures, and distributes a comprehensive range of orthopedic devices, including surgical implants, sports medicine equipment, and products for orthopedic rehabilitation, pain management, and physical therapy. Encore's Surgical Implant Division offers a comprehensive suite of reconstructive joint products, trauma products, and spinal implants.

In October 2004, Encore Medical acquired Empi, Inc. (St. Paul, MN, USA) for $362 million, in a transaction designed to enable the company to provide a continuum of care for surgical and rehabilitation patients. Encore has moved from being a distributor of surgical implants to making and distributing its own line of implants.
