SPECT Software Licensed to Siemens

Posted on 22 Mar 2006
Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany) has announced a licensing agreement with the Cleveland Clinic (OH, USA) to market reconstruction and calibration software developed by Clinic researchers. More...

With multi-pinhole reconstruction and calibration software developed by Dr. Frank DiFilippo from Cleveland Clinic's department of molecular and functional imaging, researchers can produce high-resolution images with more specificity in a portion of the time of traditional collimators, which can take up to one hour to complete. Providing clearer images at a higher resolution than conventional single or multi-pinhole collimators, a single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) system could allow researchers to more rapidly and accurately image new diagnostic and therapeutic substances in preclinical studies.

"Siemens continues to set the standard in advanced molecular imaging research,” stated Michael Reitermann, president, Molecular Imaging Division, Siemens Medical Solutions.

The new software tackles an important challenge associated with multi-pinhole collimators. With each added pinhole, the complexity of the detector geometry increases, amplifying the importance of accurate calibration. "Such accurate calibration is an enabling factor for high-resolution image reconstruction,” said Dr. DiFilippo.. This new method can increase the versatility of preclinical scanners and provide higher quality images than traditional calibration methods.”

Single-Use System Enables Minimally Invasive Decompression for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Lumbar spinal stenosis is frequently driven by hypertrophic bone that narrows the canal and produces pain. Conventional decompression often relies on larger incisions and bulky retractors, adding time,... Read more
