Consortium to Develop POCT Standards

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 06 Sep 2000
A nonprofit group, called the Connectivity Industry Consortium (CIC), formed last October to develop standards-based point-of-care-testing (POCT) connectivity solutions had a successful launch in March and is now on its way toward achieving its goal. More...
Members are medical device manufacturers, healthcare providers, and information system suppliers. Agilent Technologies (Palo Alto, CA, USA) helped organize the group, at the behest of the Point-of-Care Testing Division of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC).

The goal is a set of standards that can become the foundation for POC connectivity
in all areas of healthcare. These standards must be self-sustaining, utilize practical, cost-effective, user-focused solutions and be transferable to an established industry standards organization. The desired outcome is broad-based vendor and provider adoption of the CIC standards. The CIC hopes to complete its task within a year.
