In a move that will improve the portfolio of its NeuroSciences division and provide a channel to the French market, Integra LifeSciences Holdings (Plainsboro, NJ, USA) has acquired Satelec Medical (France) for US$3.6 million in cash. More...
Satelec, a subsidiary of Satelec-Pierre Rolland group, manufactures and markets the Dissectron ultrasonic aspirator console, the leading ultrasonic surgical system in France. Satelec has revenues of $1.5 million in 2000.

The Dissectron system applies ultrasonic energy to precisely fragment and emulsify soft tissue, which is subsequently aspirated, while preserving major blood vessels, nerves, and elastic fibers. The system is used in a variety of surgical applications, including neurosurgery. Satelec will continue to manufacture the Dissectron until production is transferred to Integra's manufacturing facility in Andover, England, where the Selector line of ultrasonic aspirators are manufactured that are marketed by Integra NeuroSciences.

"The acquisition of Satelec Medical provides our Integra NeuroSciences division with another leading device for the international market and an existing infrastructure through which Integra can sell certain of its other products directly into France,” said Stuart M. Essig, president and CEO of Integra.
