A new image enhancement system reduces the need for retakes and patient exposure to radiation. More...

The new technology has earned the 2007 Frost & Sullivan Global Enabling Technology of the Year award in the image enhancement market. With the launch of the GOPView XR2-ADi, Contextvision, the developer of the software (Stockholm, Sweden), has extended the scope and impact of its unique GOP (group of picture) methodology. In addition, the new capabilities enabled by this adaptive image enhancement system, open new opportunities in the saturated X-ray market.

"GOPView XR2-ADi boasts several added functionalities and improved capabilities in comparison to competing products, such as automatic data identification, optimum image density, clearer detail of small structures, and most importantly, exceptionally low noise,” stated Frost & Sullivan research analyst Ranjit Ravindranathan. "This is likely to encourage the rapid acceptance of this solution by both the clinical and radiological community.”

In supporting rapid, high-quality imaging, the software not only reduces the need for retakes and patient exposure to radiation, but also reduces equipment usage, hence increasing equipment life. The ADi algorithm also minimizes the ‘burn-through' effect that frequently occurs during imaging of soft tissue in digital X-rays, reducing the need for additional windowing and leveling of images. The problems of density variations are also efficiently handled with this new technology.

"GOPView XR2-ADi can be delivered with specific settings and can be optimized for specific anatomies,” added Mr. Ravindranathan. "It offers physicians and radiologists quick and clear acquisition results with its provision of functional real time information of the anatomy.”

The ability to provide such essential patient diagnostic profiling simply and rapidly will boost adoption by original equipment manufacturers (OEM) manufacturers' systems integrators. With GOPView XR2-ADi, Contextvision has effectively addressed the pressing need for a technology offering reduced noise, improved contrast enhancement with dynamic range compression, and lower radiation dose. This has, in turn, promoted the availability of clinically more effective and safer diagnostic equipment.

"Its potential can be gauged by the fact that several major OEMs [original equipment manufacturers] have accepted this technology and have incorporated it into their offerings,” concluded Mr. Ravindranathan. "The GOPView XR2-Adi's extensive capabilities will benefit the entire imaging market, as well as confer considerable market advantage on Contextvision.”

The Frost & Sullivan Enabling Technology of the Year Award is presented to a company that has developed a technology that can benefit or revolutionize the industry. The award recipient has developed a solution that removes a significant stumbling block in the development of technology.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Frost & Sullivan (Palo Alto, CA USA) is an international growth consultancy company.

Single-Use System Enables Minimally Invasive Decompression for Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

Lumbar spinal stenosis is frequently driven by hypertrophic bone that narrows the canal and produces pain. Conventional decompression often relies on larger incisions and bulky retractors, adding time,... Read more
