Growing Focus on Healthcare in the Middle East

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 19 Nov 2002
A visionary Healthcare City is being planned that promises to transform Dubai (UAE, United Arab Emirates) into a global hub for specialized health care and a center for medical education and research. More...
The multi-billion dollar hub will serve patients throughout the region, covering 31 countries and a population of almost two billion people. The project reflects the growing importance of healthcare in this region and the huge investment being made in Dubai and throughout the Middle East.
The importance of healthcare is further mirrored by the first International Arab Health Congress, to be staged concurrently with the Arab Health Exhibition 2003, January 26-29 in Dubai. Arab Health, the region's premier hospital, medical equipment, and services exhibition and conference, is going to be 40% bigger than the 2002 exhibition, with more than 750 international and local companies exhibiting. The Middle East Imaging and Diagnostic Conference will also be held in conjunction with the congress.

Participating in the International Arab Health Congress are 40 internationally respected experts from the USA, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australasia. These experts will describe a new global early warning system for disease surveillance; new advances in telemedicine; the growing use of robotic surgery and other high-tech surgical developments; the regional threat of AIDS, tuberculosis, and obesity; the increasing cost of providing quality healthcare; and the challenges of healthcare insurance for large numbers of people.

A significant development at Arab Health 2003 will be the first International Health Services (IHS) Exhibition, a dedicated show for hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies. More details on the show and the congress are available on the Arab Health website.
