Z-Kat, Inc. More...
(Hollywood, FL, USA) has acquired the image-guided surgery business of Marconi Medical Systems, Inc. (Cleveland, OH, USA). The acquisition significantly bolsters Z-Kat's patent portfolio in image-guided surgery, helping to secure the company's position in a rapidly growing market.

Marconi's image-guided product line includes systems for neurosurgery, spine surgery, general orthopedics, and ear-nose-throat procedures. Z-Kat develops software, intelligent instrumentation, and human-interactive robotic technologies that enable surgeons to perform less-invasive procedures. These include an advanced robotic platform, known as WAM (whole arm manipulator), which can distinguish between hard bone and soft tissue.

"Z-Kat provides a path for extending the reach of information to the physical world through human-interactive robotics and advanced software-based intelligent instruments and tools,” noted John Patrick, strategic marketing manager, Marconi Medical Systems.
