Mobile CT System Supports Real-Time Imaging

A mobile computerized tomography (CD) system provides high quality intraoperative images, increasing surgeon confidence and supporting advanced minimally invasive surgery (MIS).

The Mobius Imaging (Shirley, MA, USA) Airo Mobile TruCT Imaging System is designed for diagnostic and intraoperative procedures inside existing operating room (OR) suites by combining an extra-large bore size, an extra-small footprint, and an extra-slim patented gantry design. More...
The innovative design provides a scan volume of 50 cm diameter x 100 cm length, allowing surgeons to image the entire spine in a single scan and to visualize more anatomical context than traditional C-arms. Indications include cranial, spine, trauma, and pediatric procedures.

The gantry houses custom components including an X-Ray tube, a 32-slice helical scan detector array, a high-voltage generator, an air-cooling system and a built-in battery pack. The gantry is fully integrated into the TRUMPF Medical TruSystem 7500 surgical table, which permits a fixed correlation between the patient and the scanner, resulting in reliable, reproducible, imaging. Fully adaptable, the Airo TruCT can move into a variety of procedural setups for cranial, spine, and trauma cases.

A compact, detachable touch-screen pendant controls all imaging setups, including laser alignment and dose display, while a simple, handheld system controller commands system transport, daily calibration, and system maintenance. The suspension-controlled Airo Mobile CT is electrically driven, with a single central wheel for compact maneuvering. The user-friendly control software allows even one person to easily move the system among ORs, with a front-view safety camera to ensure stress-free portability and safe passage through standard doors and elevators.

“We are delighted to now be able to offer the benefits of Airo Mobile CT imaging to clinicians and their pediatric patients. There is an unmet need in being able to provide safe and reliable CT imaging for pediatric patients during various clinical procedures,” said Gene Gregerson, CEO of Mobius Imaging. “CT systems must be designed and validated for safety and efficacy using different protocols than would be appropriate for adult patients.”

New Implant Provides Sustained Localized Therapy for Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed at advanced stages because symptoms such as bloating, pain, and pelvic pressure are nonspecific. Standard care relies on surgery and systemic therapy, yet tools for targeted... Read more
