Intraoperative Surgical Documentation System

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 25 Nov 2003
A new documentation system can store, access, and distribute intraoperative patient reports as well as digital surgical video clips and still images. More...

The new 640 system builds on the earlier 635 system, adding Windows 2000 compatibility and providing easier integration to a hospital's network and peripherals, such as shared printers and servers. A Graphical User Interface (GUI) and a touch-panel input display allow surgeons to review images and video without losing access to the current surgical video. In addition, multiprocedural information can now be saved to a hard disk drive and compact disc or exported via the hospital's computer network. The system also supports standard paper printers for hard copy documentation. The system is the product of Smith & Nephew, Inc., Endoscopy Division (Andover, MA, USA).

"The enhancements in the 640 Image Management System are a direct result of user feedback received from surgeons and other medical professionals,” noted Liz Rogerson, market manager. "Clinicians consistently voiced the importance of having access to a comprehensive report or review on a patient's health history. The addition of the 640 system provides the means to make it happen.”
