A new modular shockwave lithotripsy system with technologically advanced features was introduced during the annual meeting of the American Urological Association in San Francisco (CA, USA) in May 2004.

Called Compact Sigma, the system features a 140 mm electromagnetic shockwave source, a flexible over- and under-table therapy head, and the motorized Relax+ patient table. More...
The system is appropriate for all extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) and is the product of Dornier MedTech (Munich, Germany), which invented ESWL. The Compact Sigma is designed to couple both mechanically and with laser-guided alignment to ensure quick, easy, and precise coupling with standard surgical C-arms.

"The modular flexibility and multifunctionality are key benefits of the Compact Sigma,” said Brian Walsh, president of Dornier MedTech America. "When ultrasound, x-ray imaging, endoscopic tower, and lasers are added, the result is a full-service urologic workstation.”
