Closure System for Femoral Arteries

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 02 Aug 2004
A new closure system for use following diagnostic or interventional vascular procedures delivers a proprietary, resorbing sponge directly over the vascular puncture to stop bleeding at the site.

The system, called SureStat, has three quick steps: insert, pull back, and deliver. More...
It is introduced "over-the-wire” and through the patient's procedural sheath, eliminating many steps in the closure process. The sponge, called T-Foam, resembles the texture of natural tissue and does not induce excessive scar formation as do many other closure products. Following a catheterization procedure, T-Foam will completely absorb, leaving nothing behind. SureStat is the product of Sub-Q, Inc. (San Clemente, CA, USA).

"With its significant advantages in ease of use and established benefits in safety and patient comfort, SureStat will represent a significant improvement for patients and users of vascular closure products,” said Maurice Buchbinder, M.D., interventional cardiologist at Scripps Memorial Hospital (La Jolla, CA, USA) and an evaluator of the SureStat product.
