Tibial Distractor for Trauma Surgery

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 16 Jan 2005
A new device called a Tibial Distractor is a patient-positioning aid developed specifically for trauma surgery.

The device provides distraction and rotation for axial alignment during nailing, plating, and bone grafting procedures of the tibia. More...
Use of the device eliminates the need to manually stabilize the leg throughout the procedure. This allows intraoperative imaging, with substantially reduced radiation exposure for surgical assistants.

The autoclavable unit folds to fit into operating room sterilizers, and offers disposable sterile, latex-free patient-protective foam pads. Insertion of a calcaneal pin facilitates placement of the patient's foot into the bow of the unit, allowing maximum exposure, distraction, rotational alignment, and stabilization through skeletal traction.

The Tibial Distractor is the product of Innovative Medical Products, Inc. (IMP, Plainville, CT, USA). A leading provider in the specialty field of patient positioning, IMP holds several patents for its unique and functional devices, including the De Mayo Hip Positioner, Universal Knee Positioner, and Femur Finder.
