Laser Head for Tattoo Removal

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 28 Feb 2005
A new and affordable laser head is designed specifically for the removal of dark tattoos and benign pigmented skin lesions.

This Q-switched 1064 nm YAG laser head fires extremely short 6-8 nanosecond pulses of light having very high peak energy. More...
The pulsed laser creates a localized acoustic shock wave that fragments the pigment particles, breaking them into pieces small enough to be removed from the body by normal healing processes. The design of the laser ensures that energy is distributed evenly across the pulsed area, which increases both safety and effectiveness. The new head fits all existing systems of the IPL Quantum platform of Lumenis Ltd. (Yokneam, Israel).

"As life circumstances change, so does the tattoo's appeal,” said Avner Raz, president and CEO of Lumenis. "Providing the new Q-switched laser head for our 2,500 installed base of IPL Quantum systems gives the physicians a very affordable means of serving this large and growing market.”

The new laser head joins three existing IPL Quantum modules: SR (for telangiectasias, broken capillaries, and benign brown pigmentation from sun damage and photoaging), DL (for large, deep telangiectasias, melasma, and benign cutaneous vascular lesions such as hemangiomas), and HR (for permanent hair reduction).
