Laparocision Scope Controller

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 06 May 2005
A new system, called the laparocision scope controller, enables surgeons who are performing laparoscopic surgery to maintain two hands on the laparoscopic instruments while controlling the video scope without an assistant. More...
The system has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The system is easy to set up and learn and is compatible with standard trocars. It was developed by GMP Companies, Inc. (Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA; www.gmpcompanies.com), which develops novel healthcare technologies. The company is currently assessing the best way to commercialize the system, including licensing, sale, and/or partnering opportunities.

"This important clearance is the culmination of our comprehensive in-house development program,” observed George Titus, Ph.D., senior vice president for GMP Companies. "We are very pleased that we will soon be able to offer healthcare professionals a new and exciting product that should enhance patient care and potentially lower the costs of surgeries.”

Other products developed by the company include the LifeSync wireless ECG system, a glaucoma implant, and Solight, a surgical instrument lighting system.
