Integrated Software for Knee Surgery

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 21 Jun 2005
Advanced medical software and precision instruments can assist orthopedic surgeons to perform minimally invasive and more accurate knee-replacement surgery.

AchieveCAS Knee 2.0 is an application resulting from the worldwide co-development and distribution agreement between Orthosoft (Montreal, Canada) and Smith & Nephew Orthopedics (Memphis, TN, USA). More...
The custom-designed software and instruments are part of the surgical navigation system developed by Orthosoft, which provide surgeons with enhanced guidance and visualization features that allow smaller incisions and an implant that is more accurately aligned. AchieveCAS Knee 2.0 supports the surgical techniques used with Smith & Nephew's Genesis II and Profix knee systems.

"For the first time in computer-assisted surgery, the software is integrated with the surgeon's tools, and the surgeon can use his tools to control the graphic display on the monitor to optimize implant alignment and accuracy,” noted Dr. Louis-Philippe Amiot, chairman and CEO of Orthosoft.

Orthosoft's computer-assisted orthopedic surgery software has been shown in clinical trials to significantly improve implant alignment, recovery time, and to reduce postoperative pain. In North America alone, more than 350,000 knee implants are sold annually by implant manufacturers.
