Hydrophilic-Coated Diagnostic Catheter

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 29 Jun 2005
A new diagnostic catheter has a hydrophilic coating designed to provide doctors with better handling during complex, difficult-to-maneuver catheterization procedures.

The Tempo Aqua catheter can be used in selective catheterization, carotid angiography, and in emerging procedures such as uterine fibroid embolization and subintimal angioplasty. More...
The catheter has a unique, three-layer tip construction in which the radiopaque tungsten tip material is embedded between two nylon layers. This design helps to minimize the potential for clotting and biocompatibility problems while maintaining the integrity and strength of the tip. The catheter is available in a variety of sizes, lengths, and shapes.

"Tempo Aqua provides superior trackability and lesion-crossing characteristics which facilitate treatment of difficult arterial lesions,” stated Stephen J. Motew, M.D., FACS, a vascular surgeon at Forsyth Medical Center (Winston-Salem, NC, USA). "The Tempo Aqua catheter has allowed treatment of complex total arterial occlusions due to its hydrophilic and torqueability qualities.”

The new catheter was developed by Cordis Endovascular (Warren, NJ, USA), a Johnson & Johnson company.
