Syringe for Bone Void Filling

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 08 Aug 2005
A new syringe comes preloaded for bone void filling procedures, providing a convenient and simple way of enhancing the granule material properties and delivering the granules intraoperatively.

Called TrueGraft, the bone graft syringe was developed by OsteoBiologics, Inc. More...
(OBI, San Antonio, TX, USA). In the past, many clinicians have prepared their bone grafting materials in a cumbersome and time-consuming process, according to OBI. The TrueGraft is designed to remedy this. "With the initial success of our TruGraft bone graft substitute (BGS) granules, clinicians asked us for ways to facilitate their procedures and give them more opportunities to use our material,” explained Fred Dinger, president and CEO of OBI. "With their input and feedback, we developed the TruGraft BGS syringe to offer them the convenience they desired.”

The TruGraft BGs syringe utilizes the company's proprietary PolyGraft material technology and is unique by providing a biologically friendly and stable scaffold during the time required for tissue healing. OBI estimates that in the United States alone more than 500,000 bone grafting procedures are performed annually in orthopedic surgical procedures involving areas such as the extremities and spine.

OBI develops and manufactures bioabsorbable polymeric scaffolds, films, and related instrumentation for the repair and replacement of bone, soft tissue, and articular cartilage. The company is also focused on commercializing its platform technologies in arthroscopy and sports medicine.
