C-Arm Cooling System for Long Procedures

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 14 Mar 2001
A high-efficiency cooling system integrated into a C-arm cover is especially designed for use in sterile surgical environments and long procedures, such as vascular, cardiac, electrophysiologic, and endoscopic applications.

The cooling system is the only mobile system especially qualified for the implantation of latest-generation cardiac pacemakers, since it does not require any cool-down breaks or C-arm changes during the procedure. More...
The fully sealed system, called the Ziehm Active Cooling System, is the product of Instrumentarium Imaging Ziehm (Nuremberg, Germany).

The sealed cooling circle is filled with a nontoxic liquid. The system efficiently transports the heat out of the tube housing into a separate cooling liquid reservoir, increasing the heat capacity to about five million heat units. This enables a nearly unlimited radiation time while ensuring full performance and image quality. The cooling performance of the system easily surpasses the capabilities of conventional fixed and rotating anode tubes, says Instrumentarium. The system functions automatically and requires no service.
