Hand-Held Electronic Record for Doctors

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 21 Mar 2001
New software turns a hand-held PC into an electronic repository for medical data, enabling doctors to enter patient notes, write and edit prescriptions, check lab results, and have a patient's complete history at hand at all times. More...

Called PocketChart, the software comes with templates that can be customized to meet special needs. An optional Trauma Edition template is also available. PocketChart allows doctors to use simple point-and-tap menus to record all elements of a patient encounter, obviating the need for illegible handwritten notes. This means the documentation process can begin the minute patients enter the room and is already part of their record by the time they move on.

PocketChart includes a prescription feature and drug database that facilitate easy electronic scripting. Doctors who need to share data with multiple clinicians in an office or networked setting can use WebChart, a wireless, Internet-based clinical documentation and coding tool. Both PocketChart and WebChart are the products of Data Critical Corp. (Bothell, WA, USA).
