Versatile Lighting System

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 18 Jan 2006
A new lighting system offering a number of advances is designed for use in general surgery, outpatient surgery, and critical care.

The Harmony LC Lighting System from Steris (Mentor, OH, USA) provides improved maneuverability, high brightness intensity, proper color rendition, excellent shadow reduction, optimal deep-cavity illumination, and superior pattern-size adjustment. More...
The system uses a special suspension that can compensate for considerable shaft displacement for optimal maneuverability.

The Harmony system employs WaveLens technology, which allows adjustment of pattern size without losing focus. Other features include integrated handle controls to adjust pattern size, intensity, and focus; cold-mirror reflectors that filter heat away from patients; and a wall-mounted control panel that includes light-emitting diode (LED) indicators to show lighting status and the status of the optional in-light video camera.

The system can be configured with up to three Harmony 500 lightheads or four flat-panel monitors per spindle, and the monitors can be installed in portrait or landscape orientation. The ceiling mount accommodates ceilings as low as 255 cm.

This Harmonty LC is an extension of the company's existing Harmony line, which includes the Harmony LA lighting and visualization system, typically used in surgical suites where advanced robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgical procedures are being performed. The Harmony systems have flexible modular features and capabilities that allow for future growth and surgical innovation.
