Advanced Digital Endoscopes Aid Diagnosis

By HospiMedica staff writers
Posted on 01 Oct 2007
An advanced digital endoscopy platform offers a flexible system for trans-nasal and esophageal examination in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

The ENT-5000 Flexible Digital Endoscope is designed to be used in endoscopic examination of the upper airway, vocal cords, and/or nasal passages, or as an aid in intubation, while the TNE-5000 Flexible Video Laryngoscope is intended for use in endoscopic access and examination of the larynx, esophagus, and gastroesophageal junction. The new videoscopes feature a small diameter insertion tube that contains a high resolution, tiny charge-coupled device (CCD) camera at the tip, and both scopes are equipped with a built-in light-emitting diode (LED) light source, eliminating the need for a separate camera head and light cable.

The videoscopes are used in conjunction with proprietary Slide-On EndoSheath technology that eliminates the need for elaborate high-level disinfection between procedures, providing rapid equipment turnover, limiting capital investment for additional scope inventory, reducing exposure to toxic chemicals, and dramatically lowering repair and maintenance costs. The sterile, single-use protective sheath are available both with and without an operative channel. The endoscopes and sheaths are made by Vision-Sciences (Orangeburg, NY, USA)

"The ENT specialty was the first to truly understand and benefit from the advantages of the EndoSheath Technology,” stated Mr. Ron Hadani, CEO of Vision-Sciences. "We believe that the specialty is now ready to advance to a compelling, high-performance video endoscopy and EndoSheath option.”
