Novel Technology Eliminates Sutures, Staples, and Adhesives To Close Wounds

A new dynamic tissue manipulation product bridges incisions and wounds across multiple categories to prevent sutures or staples from tearing. More...

The SutureSafe is a non-invasive, adhesive-based wound care device which applies as simply as a bandage, bridging the wound line as an addition to or even instead of sutures or staples. The SutureSafe is comprised of two main functional elements: The RipStop allows application of SutureSafe at the ideal tension; the RipStop acts like a safety belt, stopping the wound from pulling apart (dehiscence) if it is subjected to sudden forces (such as coughing or sneezing). The silicone elastic center helps pull together the edges of the wound with a gentle-but-constant force, counteracting painful pulling against sutures or staples, increasing mobility, and speeding the healing process. As a result, SutureSafe relieves tension; and as a bonus, it is removed cleanly and painlessly. SutureSafe is available in two sizes: 13 mm x 102 mm and 16 mm x 216 mm. The SutureSafe is a product of Canica Design (Almonte, ON, Canada).

"We know from results of multiple studies that tension across wounds or incisions can cause complications and the final appearance of a scar may be influenced by tension or mechanical factors,” said Leonard G. Lee, President of Canica. "SutureSafe is the latest product in our comprehensive line of patented dynamic wound closure and dynamic tissue manipulation devices which help patients heal faster, become mobile sooner and suffer less pain and scarring.”

SutureSafe can be applied in the hospital immediately after surgery and by patients following discharge, promoting a faster and less painful recovery from many kinds of trauma and surgical procedures, including plastic & reconstructive, orthopedic, cardiothoracic, and gastrointestinal operations, or lacerations & contaminated wounds, harvest sites, and oncological procedures.
