Ceiling-Mounted Imaging Systems Provide Improved Imaging Quality

An imaging system’s ceiling-mounted configuration with a large flat detector is suited to interventional procedures, with high contrast resolution to improve accuracy in image-guided procedures at a low dose.

London Bridge Hospital (UK), part of HCA International (London, UK), London’s largest private healthcare provider, has installed two Artis zee ceiling-mounted imaging systems from Siemens Healthcare (Erlangen, Germany). More...

Both the new systems replaced equipment, which had reached the end of its life. One of the systems is located in a new hybrid cath lab, where it is being used for examinations that were previously referred to surgery. The two Artis zee systems are supporting a wide range of imaging procedures including electrophysiology, coronary ablation, coronary intervention, interventional radiology, and endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR).

The hybrid cath lab is now able to offer new services to patients, such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) using the ceiling-mounted Artis zee in conjunction with syngo DynaCT, an application for interventional imaging. Dyna computed tomography (CT) is assisting radiographers in acquiring cross-sectional images along with syngo iPilot, providing visualization and fading between a live two-dimensional (2D) fluoroscopy image and the matching 3D data set. The hospital is also making use of syngo iGuide, which provides optimal patient access by clearly displaying the length and angulation of the needle path. Combined, these applications provide a greater level of visualization for procedural confidence, improved workflow efficiency, and increased patient comfort.

“The Artis zee systems provide great accuracy in image-guided procedures at a low dose. The excellent image quality provided on a 56-inch monitor means we benefit from greater levels of detail and reduced dose as there is less need for magnification,” said Donna Page, angiography superintendent radiographer at London Bridge Hospital. “Not only are we benefiting from improved visualization, but procedures such as those involving valve placements have also become more accurate and safer.”

“The Artis zee confidently handles a wide range of procedures and is helping to make the best possible use of space in the new hybrid cath lab environment,” said Malcolm Pickering, regional sales manager at Siemens Healthcare. “The use of syngo advanced applications will also assist with workflow at London Bridge Hospital, increasing the number of patients that can be seen and making procedures more precise.”
