Multifunctional OR Light Illuminates the Surgical Field

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 11 Oct 2012
A newly optimized operating room (OR) light offers performance-enhancing features such as the ability to adjust both the color temperature and the pattern size.

The TruLight 5000 OR light provides 160,000 Lux of brightness and a color rendering index (Ra) of 96 using 90 light emitting diodes (LEDs); the smaller TruLight 5300 version achieves 140,000 Lux with 60 LEDs. More...
Both models can be dimmed within a range of between 100%-5%. Since the TruLight uses both cool white and warm white LEDs, it is capable of offering variable color temperature settings of 3,500-5,000 K, allowing contrast enhancement to be individually controlled. Another new feature is the ability to adjust the size of the illumination pattern, from a diameter of 23 centimeters down to 16 centimeters. This is particularly advantageous feature for minimally invasive surgery (MIS) procedures, as a reduced field cuts down on reflections from the surrounding areas.

The TruLight 5000 can also be fitted with the adaptive light control plus optical lighting system, which automatically measures the distance between the light head and the surgical site, and adjusts the illumination to precisely suit each situation. Even when the light itself is repositioned, the individual light settings and the optimal illumination levels are not lost. The lighting intensity and the size of the pattern field can be adjusted quickly and in a sterile manner via a simple swipe of the thumb on the handle of the light head. For use in telemedicine, the TruLight 5000 can be equipped either with the TruVidia standard definition (SD) or high definition (HD) camera.

The efficient design makes the TruLight 5000 a lightweight surgical lighting system that is easy to position and readily adaptable to the requirements of the surgery being performed, and is available as a mobile lighting unit, a wall mounted unit, and also in a low-ceiling height version. The powerful LEDs and a highly efficient lighting system minimize energy consumption, ensuring minimal heat build-up and a high light output. The TruLight 5000 and TruLight 5300 OR light units are products of TRUMPF Medical Systems (Ditzingen, Germany).
