Thin Skin Adhesive Absorbs Wound Exudates

By HospiMedica International staff writers
Posted on 02 Mar 2014
A range of new skin wound dressings with properties similar to an acrylic adhesive form a gel when absorbing wound exudates.

The BeneHold range of absorbent wound dressings are designed to manage lightly to moderately exuding chronic and acute wounds, and are constructed of a self-adherent wound contact layer that turns into a soft gel that protects against wound dehydration and facilitates granulation, autolysis, and epithelization. A smooth, water-resistant polyurethane top film acts as a barrier to external contaminants and bacteria. The dressings are also transparent, allowing for site visibility up to seven days.

The BeneHold range includes the Thin Absorbent Wound Dressing, the Standard Hydrocolloid Dressing, the Bordered Hydrocolloid Dressing with Odor Control, and the Bordered Sacral Hydrocolloid Dressing with Odor Control. All dressings exhibit superior fluid handling capacity, yet are thin and conformable to enhance patient comfort. The dressings are based on proprietary thin absorbent akin adhesive (TASA) technology; at only 0.1mm in thickness, TASA has the capacity to manage fluid in excess of traditional thin hydrocolloids.

Other feature include high fluid handling capacity to maintain a moist wound environment through a high water vapor transmission rate and static absorption, minimizing skin maceration; low profile rounded corners to help prevent edge lift; and odor control via organic, noncytotoxic cyclodextrins that capture odor molecules. The BeneHold range are products of Vancive Medical Technologies (Chicago, IL, USA), a part of Avery Dennison (Glendale, CA, USA).
